A security guard in his late 40’s was one of two winners of the R22 million prize in the June 15th Powerball draw.
The thrilled player spent just R15 using the Quick Pick selection method to purchase his winning ticket at Orange Farm in Johannesburg. The ticket was bought on the last day of the draw, only several hours before the cut off time.
The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said that the windfall would make a “massive difference” to his family’s lives. He said that his wife was currently unemployed and they had three children to put through school.
When asked what he plans to do with his R11 million, the winner replied:
“A portion of the winnings will go towards their tertiary education. I want to invest in property and start a transportation company. Lastly, I plan to get my wife and I new cars and invest the rest of our winnings”, he said.
Congratulations to New Powerball Millionaire!
The CEO of Ithuba, Charmain Mabuza said that it was always fulfilling to witness how lottery jackpots have the ability to change players’ lives, and she congratulated the latest jackpot winner.
Mabuza said that when Ithuba was awarded the National Lottery operator license in 2015, it set out to change the lives of ordinary South Africans for the better.
All winners of R50,000 and above are offered trauma counselling and financial advice so that they are not blindsided by the life-changing amounts and sudden change in their lifestyles.
The latest winner has also opted to accept Ithuba’s advisory services.
In the meantime, Ithuba has also advised all South Africans to take advantage of the online ticket purchasing options as the country faces new coronavirus restrictions.
Tickets can be purchased on some banking apps, as well as through the National Lottery website.
