South Africa was one a phenomenal team in all formats of the game and were the only cricketing side in the world that had no problem winning in tough Asian conditions. South Africans love their cricket and used to always bet on the Proteas to win in tests, ODIs and the T20 format. Does Emotion Or Intellect Lead Your Betting?
South Africa sent a strong squad to tour Sri Lanka for the two match test series. Faf Du Plesis led the side which had Dale Steyn returning to action and KG Rabada spearheading the attack. However, the Proteas failed miserably as their battling let them down big time and they suffered a humiliating 2-0 series defeat.
What will upset South African fans and bettors who backed them was not just the fact that they lose 2-0 but how they lost. The usual, grit, determination and fighting spirit was missing and the team overall looked a bit deflated.
South Africa will have a chance to redeem themselves in the 5 match ODI series which starts on July 29 and will take place in Dambulla. It will take a brave South African cricket fan to back the Proteas and bet on them in the first ODI considering the fact that they have had such an awful in Sri Lanka so far.
New ODI Team Has No Scars
If you are a die-hard Proteas supporter then you might want to buy into JP Duminy’s belief that this new look ODI squad does not have any scars from the test defeat. South Africa did well in their ODI warm up match against SLC XI which they won by 63 runs. RR Hendricks and PWA Mulder did well scoring half centuries while PWA Mulder went on to take 3 wickets.
In a statement, JP Duminy said “A few new guys have arrived, which brings fresh energy and is definitely positive for the environment. The ODI squad is really an exciting, youthful group and there’s a bit of pressure on the old dogs like me. There’s a different energy, which is great for the environment.”
