tsogo-sun-to-launch-new-hi-hotel-brand-at-montecasinoThe South African casino and hospitality brand, Tsogo Sun, will launch the first of its ‘economy segment’ hotels at its flagship Montecasino this year. Tsogo Sun has plans to grow its new hi chain at several sites across the country.

In an interview recently, the chief executive officer of Tsogo Sun, Marcel von Aulock, said that the group had invested around R80 million on the hi Monte hotel development, which will be operated by Tsogo Sun Hotels.

It is an exciting and innovative new limited-service hotel offering from Tsogo Sun, which is built using a modular design that significantly reduces overall development costs,” said Aulock.

Tsogo Sun Hotels was separated from the larger Tsogo Sun Gaming group in 2019.

Tsogo Sun hopes to actively grow the chain alongside its other brands, including Sun Square, StayEasy and Southern Sun, to name just as few.

What makes the hi brand stand out from the other economy segments, such as StayEasy, is the fact that the rooms are more basic and don’t offer breakfast services or kitchens. The idea is that they are located very centrally, next to prime restaurants and gambling hubs, and therefore visitors won’t be needing cooking or breakfast facilities.

“While the first hi hotel will open at Montecasino, we believe the brand will work well in other mixed-use properties or nodes such as regional shopping centres, where guests can choose where to eat and have other entertainment options within walking distance,” said the CEO in his interview to MoneyWeb.

According to the executive, the new brand has lower development costs due the modular design. A hi hotel, for example, can easily be built on top of a parking structure, without the need for intricate engineering and civil construction work.

The new hi hotel in Fourways will have the very best of Montecasino right on its doorstep, including excellent food, shopping, entertainment and 24/7 gambling action on smoking and non-smoking casino floors.
