What is Sportstake 13?

SportStake 13 is a lottery-style sports betting game where players predict the outcomes of 13 pre-selected soccer matches. These matches are from professional leagues and tournaments in South Africa, the UK, and other countries around the world.

  • Each betting board, which includes predictions for all 13 matches, costs R2, making it an affordable option for many players.

  • To win, you need to correctly predict at least 10 out of the 13 match outcomes on a single board.

  • Players only need to choose the outcome (win, lose, or draw) rather than the exact score.

  • The goal is to correctly predict the result of each match, choosing whether the home team will win, the away team will win, or if the match will end in a draw.

Bet OptionOutcomeDescription
(1)Home WinThe home team wins the match.
(X)DrawThe match ends in a draw. Both teams have the same score.
(2)Away WinThe away team wins the match.

How to Play SportStake 13: Step-by-Step Guide

Betting and making your Sportstake 13 predictions is easy. Follow these steps to predict the soccer match outcomes of your favourite soccer players and teams.

1. Get the Fixture List

Check the SportStake 13 Fixtures online or visit a National Lottery store to get the list of upcoming matches. New fixtures are released every Monday (midweek games) and Friday (weekend games).

2. Understand the Match Outcomes

Review the fixture list and decide on your predictions:

  1. (1): Home team wins.

  2. (X): The match ends in a draw.

  3. (2): Away team wins.

3. Fill Out Your Bet Slip & Make Your Predictions

Buy a bet slip at a lottery retailer or fill out your slip online. Your bet slip is split up into different game boards. Each one has 13 rows, and each row is a match from the list of games. The three possible results for the games are shown in the columns.

There must be a mark in at least one box in every row. You can also tick off more than one result for each match, but if you do that, don't forget to tick off the Multi-Play box.

4. Use Multi-Play (Optional)

If you want to increase your chances, you can mark more than one outcome per match. Mark the Multi-Play box if selecting multiple outcomes. Each combination creates an additional board and increases the cost.

5. Calculate the Cost

Each board costs R2. Multiply the number of boards you’ve created by R2 to calculate the total cost of your bet slip.

6. Place Your Bet

  • In-Person: Hand your completed bet slip to the teller at a National Lottery retailer and pay for your ticket.

  • Online: Make sure you have sufficient funds in your online account and confirm your selections before submitting your bet.

7. Wait for the Results

After the matches are finished, check the Sportstake 13 results to see if your predictions were correct.

8. Claim Your Prize (If Applicable)

If you’ve correctly predicted at least 10 out of 13 outcomes, you’ve won a prize!

  • In-Person: Present your winning ticket at a National Lottery retailer to claim your prize.

  • Online: Winnings are usually credited to your online account automatically.

9. Review and Plan for Next Time

Whether you win or lose, review your Sportstake 13 strategy and consider how you can improve your predictions for the next round.

More on SportStake Multi-Play

A SportStake Multi-Play is a mix of a system entry and quick picks. Because you can bet on more than one result of the same game, you have a better chance of winning. With each different outcome prediction, you’ll generate a new board.

For example, you could bet that the first game on the list will be won away and at home. When you bet on two of the three possible outcomes, it's called a "double." Two boards will be made, one showing wins away from home, and one showing wins at home. Because of this, you will be charged R4 for two boards.

You can also bet on an away win, a home win and a draw for the same game. This is called a triple. Three boards will be made in this case. This costs R6, with three boards covering wins away from home, wins at home, and draws.

Multi-Play bets can be placed on any game, but the biggest bet that can be placed on a single bet slip is R2,000. You won't be able to cover all possible outcomes of all 13 games because there are more than 1.5 million different ways that an away win, a draw, and a home win can occur.

Winning SportStake 13

To win SportsStake 13, you must correctly guess the result of at least 10 of the 13 games on the same board. The game is over after 90 minutes, plus any extra time that is played. Shootouts that end in penalties don't count towards the score.

The prizes are paid for with half of the money made from selling SportStake 13 tickets. There are four groups: 10 correct, 11 correct, 12 correct, and 13 correct. The prize money is split between these divisions and then given to the winners.

Prizes and Winning Odds

Since SportStake 13's prize pool is 50% of ticket sales, there are no set amounts that will be paid out. If no one can correctly guess all 13 outcomes, the pool will move to the first division of the next games.

In the event that there are no winners in any division, the prize money for each division will be split among the ones below. The money will become the first prize for the next draw if there is no winner in division four.

The prize can keep rolling over indefinitely. It will do this again and again until someone wins.

Tips and Strategies for Playing SportStake 13

Research Team Form and Statistics

Before placing your bets, look at how teams have been performing recently. Check their last few games to see if they are in good form or struggling. Also, consider head-to-head records between the two teams—some teams consistently perform better against certain opponents. Check for any key players who might be injured or suspended, as this can significantly affect the outcome of a match.

Follow Expert Analysis

Listening to soccer analysts or following tipsters can give you valuable insights into upcoming matches. These experts often have access to detailed information and can help you make more informed decisions. They might spot something you missed, like a tactical change or a key player returning from injury.

Consider Recent Trends

It's useful to notice trends, such as teams that consistently perform well at home or those that have been strong defensively. For example, if a team has won most of their recent away games, that could be a sign they might win again. Recognizing these patterns can help you make better predictions.

Balance Risk and Reward

To increase your chances of winning, mix your bets between safer, more likely outcomes, and a few riskier ones. Safe bets might have a lower payout, but they are more likely to win. Riskier bets might not always pay off, but when they do, the reward can be much higher. Balancing these can give you a better chance of making a profit.

Avoid Emotional Betting

It's easy to let your personal feelings for a team influence your bets, but this can lead to poor decisions. Practise responsible gambling and try to stay objective and base your bets on research and facts rather than emotions. Just because you support a team doesn't mean they will win.

Use Multi-Play Wisely

Multi-Play allows you to bet on multiple outcomes for the same match, which can increase your chances of winning. However, it also increases the cost of your bet. Use Multi-Play when you're uncertain about a match outcome but don't go overboard—consider the potential winnings versus how much you’re spending.
