White King Slot Summary
This was one slot that had the internet buzzing at release. The interesting theme paired with Playtech’s known polish meant that White King hit the casinos in a stride and reached quite high very quickly. For the time, it was one of the best the developers have put out, even if nowadays it might feel a bit boring. As always, Playtech delivers a great looking game, which has a good fixed jackpot and interesting special features, which here come out to be a free spin, which is a rather rare occurrence, and stacked Wilds, which appear much more often. The paytable is a bit tight, and the slot could easily be classified as low to medium variance. It ticks some boxes right, and some leave something to be desired, but let’s look back and see how it holds up a few years later.

How to Play
White King offers you 40 flexible paylines, which you can adjust, alongside the amount of coins you want to set on the playing field. First of all, we love the fact paylines can be adjusted by a slider rather than buttons off to the side, and we wish we could see more of this in games. Other than that, you have a rather wide betting range, going from R0.1 up to R20,000 depending on how many paylines you have active and the amount of cash you have on each line. This means both high rollers and casual players alike can enjoy what this Playtech release has to offer, and it does manage to get your mind going. The wins aren’t bad for a slot of its category, but the RTP sitting at 90.05% might be a turn off, especially as similar titles have it tuned higher. This leads to a period of ‘warming up’ before you start seeing any substantial wins.
Special Features
And while none of the above is really bad, we feel like there was a distinct lacking of any substantial special features. Stacked Wilds and free spins are all White King offers, and while it works just fine, we feel one or two more could have changed things up. For what it’s worth, stacked Wilds are a great addition. The lions can appear stacked on all reels, and can replace any icon except for Scatters. This increases the odds of a five-of-a-kind Wild win, which is the highest flexible win in the game, and if you have a first reel full of stacked Wilds, a win is near guaranteed.
Free spins on the other hand can be a lot less interesting. They become active when Scatters appear on the second, third and fourth reel, which is rather difficult to pull off, much to our chagrin. That said, once you do manage to make it happen, the wins are relatively nice, as several factors come into play. The first is that all wins are increased by a x3 multiplier when the extra rounds are happening. The second is that stacked Wilds are more likely to appear during those five turns. You can retrigger the free spins if you get three Scatters at once, but we haven’t had any luck making it happen.
Verdict
When we look at White King, we can see why it drew so much interest when it came out. This Playtech release is rock solid, combining some things that have been done quite a few times now into a fun combination that will leave players spinning the reels in hopes of scoring big. The stacked Wilds, lucrative free spins, awesome visuals and a great sense of enjoyment all come together to create a really good slot. That said, it isn’t without its flaws. Outside of the Wild, the rest of the icons are a bit lacklustre in how much they can pay, the above mentioned free spins are really difficult to activate, and a RTP that is visibly below the average for a game of this type. These haven’t hampered our enjoyment of things too much, but they do add up over time. It is still solid, and we can recommend giving it a go. Our rating: 82/100
